7 Tips For A Better Night’s Sleep
- Turn off the electronics – The light from electronics suppresses the melatonin in your body. So try to stay off the electronics at least an hour before bedtime.
- Lay off the caffeine – Caffeine stays elevated in your blood between 6-8hrs of entering. So be sure to steer clear of caffeine after 4pm, where it will provide too much stimulation to fall asleep.
- Optimal Room Temperature – Keep your bedroom at a comfortable temperature. This can be anywhere from 66 – 72 degrees fahrenheit. Depending on your body needs.
- Avoid eating late at night – Eating a large meal at night can create hormone disruption which in turn can impact your sleep quality.
- Utilize relaxation techniques – try out some relaxation techniques such as reading a book, meditation, taking a calming bath or shower, deep breathing and/or relaxing music or sounds
- Have a routine – A bedtime routine will help reinforce your body’s sleep-wake schedule
- Take advantage of essential oils – There are many essential oils that have a calming effect on our bodies. Thus helping us fall and stay asleep. I love using this premade “Tranquility Spray” from one of my favorite all natural bath and body boutiques – Ursula Naturals. I spray it on my bedding every few days. You can also use essential oils in diffusers or apply directly to your body.
