My Navy Blue Obsession
Last week I repurposed an old cabinet door into a DIY Bulletin Board. And I mentioned how usually I prefer lighter pallets but for some reason I am obsessed with a dark navy blue. Well let me tell you that I am so in love with it that I decided to do another project with that very same color. I don’t know, I might even do a few more, we will see! 😉 And not only did I decide to use that deep navy blue, but I also decided to add a lil bit of character with some gold accent!
Less Trash = Cleaner Planet
I found this dresser mirror, at my favorite place to find projects, on the side of the road. Yes, I could go to the Salvation Army or any thrift store, which at times I do, but my absolute favorite place to get pieces to repurpose is the side of the road. There is something about knowing that I just rescued one more item from going into the garbage dump! I mean people throw out perfectly good things all the time! And all of that garbage piles up and pollutes our earth! So if I can rescue even just a few items, than I am all in!
Looks Great In Any Room!
But back to the main point, this Chíc Dresser Mirror Makeover! This is a super simple makeover that transforms this old dresser mirror into a Chíc Mirror that will look great in any foyer, on top of a buffet table in the dining room or even in a bathroom (if you have a big enough bathroom, and if you do – so jelly : ) )! Let me show you just how I accomplished this makeover!

Lets Prep
The first thing I did for this mirror makeover was to take off the legs/brackets of the mirror. I am sure this is where the mirror attached to the dresser, but since I don’t have a dresser to go with it, they had to go. And to remove them all I had to do was unscrew a dozen screws and pop out a couple of nails.
Then I took my painters tape and taped the border of the mirror, to protect any paint that may accidentally get brushed on there. I also taped a border around the back. I could of painted the whole back but thought it would look better just the frame.
Yes I always think about the back when I work on a project, and I make it look as beautifully as the front if possible. It just makes it more professional and clean looking!
Prime
After I finished taping it was on to priming. Because I was using a deep blue, I decided to use a grey primer, simple because I read that it creates better coverage when painting with a darker color. Not sure if this is true, but I tried it! If you know if this is true, or if it’s not really that important to use a grey primer, than please let me know in the comments.
And Paint!
Once my primer was thoroughly dry I painted my mirror frame the navy blue. It did take a couple of coats to fully cover the frame.
Next I was on to the gold accent. I wanted the mirror to have a bit of a pop. So I decided to go with this metallic gold paint. I have to say I love the finished look. It gave the mirror that bit of Chícness.
Before I painted the gold, I tapped all around the frame near the posts that I was going to paint. I had already removed the tape when I snapped this picture, sorry! It was a bit difficult to maneuver the tape around the posts and I did get a tiny bit of gold on the blue frame, but I just went in with a small painters brush and touched it up.
Once I was finished painting I removed the painters tape and my mirror was finished! Yay!
That was Super Simple and I Love the finished product!
Let Me Know!
What do you think of the gold accents? Would you of used a different accent color or none at all? Let me know in the comments below, I love to hear your thoughts!
