Talking Lighting
Today we are talking about lighting. In particular a super easy DIY Chandelier Makeover for my master bedroom remodel. Currently there is no ceiling lighting at all in my bedroom. I have to have a lamp plugged in and utilize that for my lighting. But the floor lamp I have takes up precious floor space which you might have already read, is at a minimum. So we decided to put in a ceiling light. And that is where this easy DIY Chandelier Makeover comes in.
Garage Sale Gem
My wonderful Aunt was at a garage sale and saw this gem on sale for a whopping $0.75. So she texted me and asked if I was interested. Of course! Lol (I have to say, I have one of the best families in the world. They are ALWAYS looking out for me! – So here is a shout out to all of my famo, for always keeping me in mind! You guys are the best! Mwah) Where was I? Oh yes my new chandelier. As soon as I saw the picture she had texted me, the gears in my mind started grinding and in a mere few seconds I already knew what I wanted to do with it! I love when it works out like that!
Contact Your Local Electrician If Needed
I am going to show you exactly how easy this makeover was! But before I move on to that, I want to inform you that this chandelier does not have a plug attached to it. It is meant to be wired through the ceiling into the current wiring. And since there is no current wiring, I had originally thought to add a longer cord and plug, and run it down the wall and to an outlet. But honestly we did not want the eyesore of the cord so we decided to run wiring through the ceiling. Either way, please call your local Electrician to complete any wiring that needs to be done. Electricity is very dangerous and needs to be handled by a professional.
The Makeover
This makeover is super simple and only required 3 items. Ok 7 including tape, scissors and a rag. And I did it in one afternoon. What can be better than that? Oh wait I forgot to mention that I have seen these sold for hundreds of dollars online. So not only is it an easy makeover but you are saving tons of cash by DIY’ing it yourself! Now that’s even better! #money

Prepping The Chandelier
The first thing you want to do is tape off any areas that you do not want to paint. I taped off the wiring and brackets at the top of the chandelier. Next wipe your chandelier down with a clean wet rag. You don’t want any dust or dirt to deter the paint from adhering properly. Once you have wiped it down put it aside to dry for a few minutes.
Time To Spray Paint
Next spray paint the chandelier with a paint color of your choice. I applied a couple of coats of Rust-Oleum in metallic. But I could also see this in a nice vintage white. Use whatever goes with your décor, whatever you like! That’s the other great thing about DIY’ing this, not only are you saving cash but you can make it to fit your home!
Last But Not Least The Beads
Once you finished spray painting your chandelier, allowed it to dry completely (a couple hrs) and remove all the tape. Then it is time to start adding the wooden beads. For my DIY Chandelier Makeover I used two different size beads, 20mm (from Amazon) and 25mm (clearance garland found at Michaels). I strung a strand of wooden beads from the top of my chandelier to the underside of each light, and a strand from and to the underside of each light, all around my chandelier. It took me a couple of practice strands to see exactly how many beads I needed and what I liked.
I placed my beads on my string and held it up to the place on the chandelier where I wanted it to go. If I needed more beads I added more and if it was too long I removed some. After I found exactly how many beads I needed and what pattern I wanted, I attached the end of the string to the chandelier, securing it with a double not. Then I cut the string at the other end of the strand of beads, a couple of inches longer than the bead strand and secured it to the other attachment point on my chandelier. In the end I decided to go with a pattern of 2 small beads and then 1 larger bead and repeat for as many as I needed per strand.
After completing and attaching all bead strands, my DIY Chandelier Makeover was complete. Now I just have to wait till my other half has time to put it up! So maybe it will be up next year! Lol JK – but seriously though! 😉
This Super Easy DIY Chandelier Makeover basically comes down to 3 super easy steps. 1) Prep, 2) Paint and 3) Bead. That’s it, told you it was super easy.
