Slow Down & Enjoy Life!
It was my Birthday the other day and I had quite a few things to accomplish that morning. I drove my 3 children to school and headed home to get ready for my “big day”. Not sure if I would truly call it a “Big Day”. Yes it was my birthday and it is my favorite holiday ; ), but it landed up falling on a Thursday this yr. And I didn’t have any BIG plans at all. Sometimes I go all out and sometimes I just like to chill on my birthday. This yr I appreciated the thought of just relaxing and enjoying my day.
My First Sign
So I went home, took a shower, got all dolled up and headed out the door. As I was driving to my first destination of the day, I got behind this super slow driver. And the whole time I’m thinking, come on can’t you drive a lil bit faster. Finally the road becomes two lanes and I am able to pass them. I arrive at my destination, just to realize, I was so excited to get to there that I didn’t pay attention to what time I had left the house. And so I arrived 15min before the store had even opened.
The Second Sign
Then I headed to the grocery store to pick up all the necessities for my special birthday dinner. And I am sure you know how it is at grocery stores during the day. Everyone that is retired and has all day, is up in the store. And it seemed like every single one of them walked in front of me at some point. Now I value and appreciate the older generations and usually I am a very patient person. But it was my birthday and I had things to do so that I can start enjoying it. So on that day I found myself saying “Lord please give me patience!”.
Third Times A Charm?
I exit the store and then decide I am going to stop and get me some lunch. And since it was my birthday I was going to get Chinese food (aka – Panda Express……I know I know). And If I didn’t take up to much time, I could eat in and still have time to finish my errands in time to pick up my kiddos from school. So I go in to the restaurant and order my food. I ordered a bowl Orange Chicken (Delicious) with half rice and half vegetables. The employee then tells me they are waiting on some more vegetables to be finished cooking. I give a big sigh and say ok. I proceed to pay and sit at a table next to the windows, and wait for my food to be ready.
Slow Down & Enjoy Life
As I was waiting I started to stare out the window just as I always like to do, and what happened next was profound. I start to admire what a beautiful day it was! I started to appreciate that God gave me a whole other yr. And I woke up this morning with breath in my lungs and my heart pumping! I congratulated myself on all that I had accomplished, not only in my business, but also what I had accomplished on myself as a whole. I truly slowed down and lived in that moment.
My Realization
And as I was sitting there in this awe of greatness for the beauty of the day and the wonderfulness of the past yr, I realized that God…or if you prefer….the universe…or what ever you would like to call it…..had been trying to slow me down the whole day. Giving me all these signs trying to get me To Slow Down & Enjoy Life! To remember how precious life is, how fast it goes by and how we need to savor every second we have! I mean all morning I was rushing around, trying to accomplish all my tasks so that I could enjoy my birthday. And with out even realizing it I was letting it pass me by. I wasn’t really relaxing and enjoying my birthday at all! I was to busy trying to check off all my things I had to do.
Needless to say, I sure took my time eating my lunch. And no I wasn’t able to accomplish all my tasks I had on my list. But that didn’t matter to me, because instead of running around with my head full of tasks and to do lists, I slowed down and was able to enjoy life! I truly enjoyed my “Big Day”! Every task filled part of it! lol
We all get stuck in the rut of life. Running around trying to keep it all together. Trying to check off each task on our to do list. We forget to Slow Down & Enjoy Life! So I hope after reading this you take a moment to appreciate all the good things in life. And as you are going through your daily routines, please don’t forget to Slow Down & Enjoy Life while you are doing it!
