Another Easy Upcycle Project From A Bi-fold Door
Hey Everyone! Here is another Easy DIY Project made from a bi-fold door. You can check out my other bi-fold door post here- http://bebosschic.com/2018/01/30/diy-shutter-door-organizer-chalkboard/ The other day I found a louver bi-fold door on the side of the road. Just waiting for the garbage man to come and take it away, to a landfill. So decided to save it and give it a new life. To upcycle it into something Chíc that anyone would want in their home. I used only the top half of each door for this project. But I have plans to upcycle the other portion as well. So stay tuned!
Let’s Get Prepped
The first thing I did was to use my circular saw and cut off the top portion of the bi-fold door. I used a framing square to make a straight line, so I would get a nice square, straight cut. Once I had both tops cut off, I sanded down the pieces. They didn’t require much sanding, due to the fact that they were raw wood. Then it was on to a quick cleaning. To get off any sanding dust or dirt/residue that may have been on it.
A New Life
Next, once the pieces were completely dry, I gave it a couple coats of chalk paint. I went with Rust-Oleum’s Chalked ultra matte paint in Serenity Blue for this project. There are lots of creases and crevices on this door, so I was very diligent in verifying I got every little nook and cranny. I also made sure to allow ample time for each coat to dry before applying another. After I was satisfied with the paint finish, I took some sanding paper and sanded the edges and corners a bit. This gave it a Shabby Chíc look. Now that my two pieces had the look I was looking for, I wiped off any sanding dust. Then I gave them a protective coat. I also used a Rust-Oleum product for this. It was Rust-Oleum’s Chalked protective topcoat matt clear.
The Final Touch
The last step was to add the decorative hardware. I love these little black knobs. Not only are they super cute, but they are only $.99 a piece. I got these from my local Menards. My favorite go to construction store. The S hooks I purchased online. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the S hooks in black at any of my local constructions stores. And I wanted them to match the knobs I had. I do wish I had purchased smaller S hooks. But either way I think the ones I purchased worked out just fine.
