Feed My Starving Children
A few weeks ago I had the amazing opportunity to go volunteer at the Feed My Starving Children Organization. I have to say I had never heard about this organization before. My youngest daughter, Alyssa, is on the Student Council in her 5th grade. They are the ones who setup this wonderful event. So I have to give big props to them and the volunteer parents and teachers who help out with all their activities. I also have to give big props to all the children and parents that showed up for this particular event. Every single one of them had to give up their Saturday morning to be able to participate in this awesome occasion.
Feed My Starving Children is a Christian Non-Profit organization who’s mission is “Feeding God’s Starving Children Hungry In Body And Spirit”. As you can see on the brochure picture, at least 6,200 children die from hunger or hunger-related causes. Feed My Starving Children helps to feed starving children around the world by providing free MannaPack meals to clinics, schools, orphanages and refugee programs. This MannaPack meals were specifically designed by food scientists to reverse and prevent malnutrition.
Feeding Your Spirit,
I have to tell you, volunteering at FMSC truly lifted my spirit and soul. Knowing that some little boy or girl out there would one day be able to have a nutritious meal because we were their to provide it for them, truly warms my heart. And knowing that I can make an impact, even a small one, on the lives of these children, makes giving up my Saturday morning a joy.
When you volunteer to help, not only do you feel richer when finished, but volunteering also has so many more benefits. Volunteering allows you to get out and meet new people. It can also help you become more respected as a leader in your community. when getting out to volunteer you are learning about social justices in the world and making an impact. Volunteering also helps you to become a better learner. And volunteering is supportive and empowering.
It is amazing how you get all these benefits from volunteering, from helping the world. I think if everyone truly knew how great it is for one to volunteer, many more people would be apt to help out. I hope you take the opportunity to see, first hand, just how amazing it can be for you!
While Helping To Feed Them!
How can you help Feed My Starving Children? There are multiple ways you can help this wonderful organization save the lives of starving children. You can take 2hrs out of your day to volunteer packing meals, at one of their locations or at a mobile packing event closest to you. Food packing consists of filling and sealing bags at work stations and can include adults and children (age five and up). FMSC’s online volunteer registration makes it easy and convenient to sign up. Also you can sign up by yourself, as a family, with friends or even with co-worker. You can also sign up group team members (Such as our Student Council Team, a bowling team, a math team etc….).
You can also put together a MobilePack event of your very own. Business, community groups, churches, and many other organizations can host these amazing food packing events. These events not only help support Feed My Starving Children but they also foster teamwork and unity. During a MobilePack event your organization would partner with FMSC and collaborate with local donors and volunteers to fund and pack the life-saving MannaPack meals.
And if you are short on time and collaborators, another way you can help Feed My Starving Children is by donating funds. FMSC does not receive any aid from the government. They rely on donated funds for the meal ingredients. A whopping 90% of the total donations are spend directly on meal production. And with out the generosity of people like you and me, they could not reach as many children as they do. Each meal costs less than 25 cents. So any little bit you can give helps out an extreme amount.
I hope you take the opportunity to help out this wonderful organization. Not only will you be helping to feed the spirit and body of so many hungry children, but you will also be feeding your spirit!
