The Most Effective Way To Do It, Is To Do It!
Are you one of those people who works meticulously to make sure that something is absolutely perfect, before you present it. Or maybe you are a procrastinator and you put things off, always thinking you still have time to do it, and in the end its the complete opposite. Or maybe you are like me, you are both, a procrastinator and a perfectionist. Augh…..The struggles of life!
Me The Procrastinator:
I’m always putting off my least favorite things to do. I tell myself, “I have a few more days” or “I can get it done tonight” or “its not that important for it to be done by that particular day”, all the while there is a bit of stress and anxiety lurking around. Stress and anxiety because I know I am fooling myself. Yes, I might say “I have a few more days”, but I know I will keep putting it off, keep giving myself excuses. And then at the very last minute, will be rushing to complete it. Just to end up with a 2nd rate project and disappointment in myself for procrastinating again.
Me the Perfectionist:
The things that I really enjoy doing, are the things I really take pride in doing. And so when I present it out into the world, I want to make sure it is my best work. I want it to be absolutely perfect. And yes that is a good thing, but it can also be a bad thing. You see it want it to be so perfect that I am constantly analyzing it, changing it, looking for how I can make it better. I am a stickler about it. I spend hours/days changing, fixing and re-fixing things just take make it perfect. But you know what, it never becomes perfect. I can always find something wrong with it. And before I know it, it is scheduled to be completed, and I have to accept it for what it is. So, yes, I finish it on time and it is excellent work. But did I need all that stress and anxiety from being an extreme perfectionist. I think not!
Just Do It!
As Amelia Earhart said “The most effective way to do it, is to do it”.
Stop procrastinating and waiting till the day of the deadline to get something done. Just do it! Make it your first thing you do. This way you can move on down your list with out the anxiety of needing to still complete that dreadful project.
And if your constantly analyzing your work trying to get it to be perfect, I say just turn it in already! Yes, put your best into it and analyze it a few times to make sure it comes out superb. But after those few times, trust in your ability and let it go. Release yourself from the stress of extreme perfection.
So if its starting a dreadful project or its turning one in. “The most effective way to do it, Is To Do It!”
